The Porto Alegre Public Market is a supply center in the heart of the city. Opened in 1869, on the city's first landfill, it has more than 100 establishments with a differentiated mix of activities. With a service differential, there is no store with the self-service system. Because of this, there are approximately 1200 people working directly on site. The Public Market also acts as a space for cultural and community events in the city, being worshiped by Afro religions for having an important settlement in Bará.
