Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana is a multicultural institution linked to the Secretary of State for Culture (Sedac) of the Government of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.

The history of Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana begins in July 1980, with the purchase of the old building of the Hotel Majestic, by Banrisul. On December 29, 1982, the state government acquired the property from Banrisul and, a year later, in 1983, the building was listed as historical heritage, and from then on, its transformation into Casa de Cultura. By means of State Law nº 7.803 of July 8, 1983, the space received the name of Mario Quintana, becoming part of the then Undersecretariat of Culture of the State, linked to the Secretary of Education (Seduc).

The physical transformation of the hotel into Casa de Cultura, between design and construction, was carried out from 1987 to 1990. The project was signed by the architects Flávio Kiefer and Joel Gorski, who had the challenge of planning 12,000 m2 of area built for the cultural area, on 1,540m2 of land.

On September 25, 1990, the Mario Quintana Culture House was officially opened, shortly after the creation of the State Department of Culture, which was created by State Law 9,117, on July 20 of the same year.

The spaces of Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana are dedicated to cinema, music, visual arts, dance, theater, literature, workshops and events related to all forms of art. They honor great names in the culture of the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
